As part of our podcast series, we talked with Strahinja Subotić on Serbia’s misalignment with the EU’s foreign policy. We discussed the reasons behind Serbia’s decision not to align with the EU’s sanctions on Russia in relation to the war in Ukraine. Mr Subotić provided insights into Belgrade’s developing cooperation with Beijing. We also touched upon the future of EU-Serbia relations and the possibility of staged accession as a way forward.

Aisling Garvey holds an M.A. in European Political and Administrative studies from the College of Europe, Bruges. She also holds a Master’s degree in History and English from Lettres Sorbonne Université, Paris. Aisling previously interned at the European Parliament and has work experience as a Research Assistant at the Mission of Japan to the EU. She is passionate about researching topics related to the EU’s relations with neighbouring countries mainly the UK, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans. Because of her academic background in History, she is particularly interested in how a good knowledge of the past can contribute to a better understanding of current events.
